A big hello to everyone from the ACCIONA 100% EcoPowered

I’ve finished bracing the sails on our ‘red beast’ and soaked up the umpteen puddles dotted around the boat. It’s all part of my daily routine: check the pilot lights, make sure that everything’s ready in the event of any kind of incident. I do this two or three times a day.
It’s a bit uncomfortable sailing along at an angle of 24º to the horizon, going up and down constantly, sometimes reaching a height of 1.30m. There’s not a single spot on the boat where I can stand up, and taking knocks to the head and ribs is standard fare. So I have to drag myself along, but even so I get bashed about, especially with the sea coming at me head-on and the wind blowing from the side.
I still find it hard to believe that I don’t need to start up the engine to charge the batteries. At first, I found it difficult to understand; but now I can see that it’s all worthwhile and that the countless hours of mental grind that went into developing a 100% eco-efficient system like this one were well and truly worth the effort.
It started out as an idea, but now it’s a fully-fledged racing yacht, taking on the cream of the crop that’s sailing just a few miles ahead of me. There’s still a long way to go, but one thing’s for certain: this boat is now a part of the annals of ocean-going navigation.
