Hello to you all from the ACCIONA 1OO% EcoPowered:

I’m still out at sea and putting our ACCIONA 100% EcoPowered through its paces. With each passing day it becomes clearer and clearer that this is the future of sea-faring: clean energy systems, zero-emissions, and so on.

I’m still seeing how the wind generators are charging and how the hydrodynamic system is going.

Our power source is definitely at the cutting-edge and it relies on something very important: a bank of lithium power cells which needs to be charged using three different energy sources, namely solar, wind and hydro. This race is helping me to get the most out of these systems and to find out how much I can use each one of them; it also helps me to know when I need to use the hydro or wind systems to support the solar power system.

I’m sailing aft with a reef and Solent, the perfect course for testing the hydro-generator-solar panel tandem, although in terms of consumption it would be enough to use just the solar panels.

I’m busy working out consumption levels and it turns out that using the solar panels the batteries are at no less than 88% of charge!

And I’m not skimping on the systems turned on board: there’s the radar, the computer, the satellite phone, the fleet, the PC monitor, the navigation system with its ten displays, the pilot systems with four displays, the keel…and the list goes on.

What I’m saying is that I have and I need plenty of on-board energy to power all of these systems. That’s why, up until now, sail-boats had no choice but to have a diesel engine to keep all of the systems running. And that’s where our all-important difference lies: the ACCIONA 100% EcoPowered runs solely on clean and unlimited energy drawn from the sun, the wind and the sea.

Thanks to ACCIONA, it’s now possible to keep a sail-boat running on the high seas for days on end (months, years even, I’d dare say) with absolutely no need for even a drop of fossil fuel.

And this is definitely one for the history books!
