Open 60 yachts are high-performance competition boats designed mainly for solo and double-handed racing. A number of elite races are sailed with these boats, such as the Vendée Globe, the Barcelona World Race, the Route du Rhum and the Transat Jacques Vabre. As its name suggests, this class is open, which means there is no one design that all boats must conform to. There is just a ‘box rule’ that allows any kind of design envisioning the use of new-generation technologies. The main restriction is that boat length is limited to 60 feet (18.29 metres). These are light, extremely powerful boats with large sail plans. Usually they consist of large carbon-fibre shells, to make them as light but at the same time as tough as possible, so they can stand up to difficult South Seas conditions. They are equipped with the most advanced navigation and communications systems. Few concessions are made to the skipper’s comfort, mainly in order to keep the weight down as much as possible.In our ACCIONA IMOCA 60′s design the following people and companies took part:
